Learning, LEARNING

Well I have now been in London for a little over two weeks, and oh boy do I have so much more to learn. I didn't realize that this city is as big as it is, and I haven't even managed to see all of it yet! But I have managed to snoop around the city! Some places I have already been are Hyde Park (below), Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, Carnaby Street (below), Camden Town, ChinaTown London and Westminster Abbey!

My school abroad is the University of the Arts: London College of Fashion, which is pretty legit for a number of reasons. It is one of the top fashion schools in the entire world and teaches students what it is like to work in the industry first hand. Just getting the chance to observe the full time students they all have their own distinct styles and aren't afraid to switch things up. Hopefully someday I can get my styling level up to that someday (also most students carry handbags as backpacks, interesting changes)!

The classes for the study abroad students are quite unique in my opinion, the projects that we are assigned are more interactive and involve work that would might do in the industry one day. That's a great aspect the school decided to implement because sometimes at Iowa State it is just about school work only but here we get to go out and explore different areas, its fun! (Below left: a front view of the London Eye that I took during my British Cultural Studies class - hands were starting to get numb around this point, Below right: A sign I found in Camden Town during my Fashion History class - yah we all know its pretty funny)

The food...OH THE FOOD IS JUST AMAZING. I have yet to go to a bad restaurant so far (oops I hope I don't jinx myself by saying that). I have gone to a variety of different places so far, the typical British joints where they serve fish & chips (which are great), I have gone to some Italian restaurants where the pizza is to die for (picture below), and I have also gone to a great Korean restaurant in ChinaTown (picture below, and yes its hotter than it looks).

I still haven't fully adjusted to life here in London yet, it is always busy here and it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. This will be a big test for me to understand what it is like to have real independence far far away from home! There are some moments when I'm homesick and even missing Iowa (who knew that would happen because I sure didn't). But I think that this semester is going to be one of the most fun ones that I have experienced in my life!

I'm on the Move!
